The debut EP from Birmingham's Iron Tomb! Released on CD and tape by Mercenary Press. Currently limited to 50 CDs and 50 tapes.
'Based out of the home of metal, Birmingham, England. Iron Tomb, play an axe wielding old school style of death metal mixed with blood curdling crossover riffs. Drawing inspiration from a combination of old school local heroes along with the trailblazers of the 90’s Florida scene. Looking to charge onto the thriving UK death metal scene with their soul crushing debut EP ‘Vile Retribution’. Lyrical themes of swords and sorcery explore the battles of an evil fantasy world as it burns to the ground. Take your place upon thy steed and ride into battle against the greatest enemy.'
Bands from Birmingham (the official Home of Metal™, in case you didn’t know) have beer heaviness running through their veins, and Iron Tomb is no exception. But being a Brummie doesn’t automatically make your death metal tasty, so I was pleased to hear that this debut EP, “Vile Retribution”, does indeed kick legions of ass. This phrase is very apt in this instance, because the kind of death metal on offer here is full of driving, devastating riffs, commanding, rage-filled vocals and a spike-covered battering ram of a percussion section - the kind that leaves you blissfully beaten down but still charged up and ready for more.
The band is completely dialled - the music is executed with fierce precision, but despite being razor sharp it has a satisfying grittiness to it that will keep those who like some filth in their death metal happy. I for one find the energetic, riff-heavy style, reminiscent of many early British death-metal bands of the glorious past, to be a welcome blast of fresh air. Bands like this bring death metal back to its old-school roots in the best way - that is, out of any obscure micro-genre with a niche sound and into a realm where various staple extreme-metal genres combine and cross over to make something that can be enjoyed by fans of heavy music from different circles.
If you need any more convincing, just take a look at that impeccable cover art. Riding a dark horse off a cliff into a lightning-filled sky is exactly what you get when you listen to this EP. If you’re after a physical copy, sadly, you’re out of luck, but this is so good that it’s destined for a repress (and will be available in distro at Cursed Ritual Records and Caligari Records).

This band really is something. It's pure diy, old school death metal that mixes in some hardcore and makes for some serious headbanging. Really fun stuff lml. gore-founder

Brilliant release. Not one bad track across the discography. I’m late the the coffin mulch party but I wont be leaving any time soon. (Please do more grey/purple long sleeves!) DNAcorruption

There is a creature alive today who has survived millions of years of evolution, without change, without passion and without logic. It lives to kill - a mindless eating machine. It will attack and devour anything. It is as if God created the Devil, and gave him Jaws.
